About Austrian Airlines

Austrian was founded in 1957 and is the flag carrier of Austria. Austrian’s headquarters and main hub are located in Vienna, and it has a focus city at Innsbruck. Austrian flies to approximately 130 destinations around the world, and its network in Central and Eastern Europe is particularly dense. In 2009, Lufthansa purchased Austrian, and Austrian became a part of the Lufthansa Group.

Class of Service

Austrian provides one-class and two-class service on its flights.

Business Class

Business Class passengers enjoy dedicated check-in, priority baggage handling, lounge access, including Star Alliance lounges when traveling on international flights and complimentary beverage and meal or snack service. On flights up to 5 hours in duration, each Business Class passenger will have an empty seat next to them. On long-haul flights, passengers enjoy angled lie-flat seats and amenity kits featuring natural care products from Austria.

Economy Class

Passengers traveling in Economy Class receive complimentary beverage and either meal or snack service, depending on the length of the flight. Economy Class passengers enjoy in-seat entertainment on long-haul flights on B767 and B777 aircraft.

Food and Drink

Complimentary food and beverage service is provided to all passengers. Business Class passengers on long-haul flights enjoy a selection of specialty Austrian coffees.


Passengers traveling on long-haul flights on B767 and B777 aircraft have personal video screens with a choice of 18 movie channels and 12 music channels. Passengers traveling on short and medium-haul routes enjoy shared video programming on overhead screens.

In-Flight Technology

Passengers traveling in Business Class on B767s and B777s have in-seat 110V AC power outlets.

Bombardier Q400
Austrian operates more than ten Q400s on short and medium-haul routes, and they can seat up to 76 passengers in a single-class configuration.

Customer Loyalty Program

Miles & More is Austrian’s frequent flyer loyalty program, and it is also the frequent flyer loyalty program of Lufthansa, SWISS and several other European airlines.

  • You can earn award miles by flying Austrian, Lufthansa and other airline partners.
  • Miles can also be accrued by purchasing products or services from numerous participating hotel, car and retail partners and by using a Miles & More credit card.
  • Miles can be redeemed for travel and other awards.
  • Award miles not redeemed within 36 months after their accrual date will expire at the end of that quarter. Miles earned by members who have Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status, however, do not expire. If you fail to re-qualify for Frequent Traveller status, miles will be valid for 36 months from the date status is lost and then expire at the end of that quarter.
  • Membership levels are Miles & More Member, Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle Member. Miles & More Member is the entry level for all participants in the Miles & More program.
    • Frequent Traveller status is attained by flying 35,000 status miles in a calendar year.
    • Senator status is obtained by flying 100,000 (130,000 for German residents) status miles in a calendar year.
    • HON Circle Member status is attained by flying 600,000 HON Circle miles spread over two consecutive calendar years. HON Circle miles are obtained by traveling with Austrian, certain airline partners and certain rail partners.
  • HON Circle is an extremely prestigious membership level with very personalized service for its members, including personal assistance at Frankfurt and other Lufthansa intercontinental stations worldwide.
    • Perks for Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle Members include priority on the waitlist, bonus mileage accrual and lounge access that varies by membership level.
  • You can buy and give miles for a fee.
