About Lufthansa

Lufthansa, which traces its roots back to 1926, is the flag carrier of Germany. Headquartered in Cologne, Germany, Lufthansa has its hubs and focus cities at Düsseldorf International Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Munich Airport and Zurich Airport. Class of Service

Lufthansa provides up to three classes of service on its flights.

First Class

First Class passengers enjoy valet parking at Frankfurt and Munich airports, a personal assistant to assist them through security and check-in, fully lie-flat seats, complimentary meal and beverage service and amenity kits. Passengers traveling in First Class also enjoy lounge access before departure, including Star Alliance members' owned lounges, and Welcome Lounge access upon arrival on an intercontinental flight. At select airports, First Class passengers begin their journey with a short trip by limousine or exclusive people carrier from the lounge to their flight.

Business Class

Passengers traveling in Business Class enjoy Business Lounge access before departure, including Star Alliance members' owned Business Class lounges, and Welcome Lounge access upon arrival on an intercontinental flight. Business Class passengers also enjoy angled lie-flat seats and amenity kits on long-haul flights and recliner seats on short and medium haul flights. On short and medium-haul routes, the middle seats are kept empty.

Economy Class

Passengers traveling in Economy Class on long-haul routes enjoy complimentary meal and beverage service. On short and medium-haul routes, the slim construction of the seat backs in Economy Class provides passengers with more legroom.

Food and Drink

Complimentary meal and beverage service is provided to all passengers on long haul flights. Complimentary beverages are provided to all passengers on all flights, while snack and meal service varies depending on the length of the route and the cabin booked.


Select long-haul flights on Lufthansa's Boeing 747s, and Airbus A380s, A330s and A340s have entertainment systems with audio and video on demand at all seats.

In-Flight Technology

First Class and Business Class seats on long-haul flights have 110v AC power outlets that do not require an adapter to plug in a laptop. On the Airbus A380, Economy Class passengers have access to in-seat USB and iPod ports. On select North Atlantic and Middle East flights, passengers can enjoy internet service for a fee through Deutsche Telekom. Mobile phone calls and calls through the internet (VOIP) are not permitted. Satellite phone service is available for a fee on Airbus A340 and Boeing 747 aircraft.

Lufthansa is in the process of upgrading its technology to permit passengers to send and receive SMS and MMS messages via their mobile phones at cruising altitudes.

The Fleet

Lufthansa's fleet includes the following aircraft types*:

A319, A320 and A321
- Lufthansa's A319s, A320s and A321s are used on short and medium-haul routes and provide two classes of service.
- There are approximately fifteen A330s in Lufthansa's fleet, which are used on long-haul routes and provides three classes of service.
A340-300 and -600
- Lufthansa has approximately fifty A340s in its fleet and uses them on long-haul routes in two or three-class configurations.
- Lufthansa's A380s are used on long-haul routes and can seat up to 526 passengers in a three-class configuration.
- The B737s in Lufthansa's fleet are used on short and medium-haul routes and have a two-class configuration.
- Lufthansa's fleet includes approximately thirty 747s, which are used on long-haul routes and provide three classes of service.

Customer Loyalty Program

Miles & More is Lufthansa's frequent flyer loyalty program.

  • You can earn miles by flying Lufthansa and its airline partners.
  • Miles can also be accrued by purchasing products or services from numerous participating hotel, car and retail partners and by using a Miles & More credit card.
  • Miles can be redeemed for travel and other awards.
  • Award miles not redeemed within 36 months after their accrual date will expire at the end of that quarter. Miles earned by members who have Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status do not expire.
  • Membership levels are Miles & More Member, Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle Member. Miles & More Member is the entry level for all participants in the Miles & More program. Frequent Traveller status is attained by flying 35,000 status miles in a calendar year. Senator status is obtained by flying 100,000 (130,000 for German residents) status miles in a calendar year. HON Circle Member status is attained by flying 600,000 HON Circle miles spread over two consecutive calendar years. HON Circle miles are obtained by flying Lufthansa, certain airline partners and certain rail partners. HON Circle is an extremely prestigious membership level with very personalized service for its members, including personal assistance at Frankfurt and Lufthansa intercontinental stations worldwide.
    • Perks for Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle status include priority on the waitlist, bonus mileage accrual and lounge access that varies by membership level.
    • Frequent Traveller members have Star Alliance Silver status when traveling on Star Alliance airlines.
    • Senator and HON Circle members are recognized as Star Alliance Gold members when traveling on Star Alliance airlines and have access to Star Alliance members' owned lounges with the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance.
    • HON Circle members also have access to the First Class Terminal and Lounges when flying Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines Group or Air Dolomiti.
