Founded in 1919, KLM is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name and has approximately 32,000 employees. KLM is headquartered in Schiphol, The Netherlands, and has its main hub at Amsterdam-Schiphol. KLM is now a subsidiary of Air France-KLM, which was formed in 2004 as the parent company of Air France and KLM airlines. The combined Air France-KLM flies to more than 230 destinations in over 100 countries.
World Business class is available on intercontinental flights. Passengers traveling in World Business class enjoy priority baggage handling, priority security screening where available, dedicated check-in lines, lounge access, an amenity kit, noise-cancelling headphones, and a three course meal service. Passengers are also given a traditional KLM gift, a Delft Blue miniature traditional Dutch house filled with Dutch gin, which have become collector's items among enthusiasts. KLM is in the process of replacing its angled lie-flat seats with fully lie-flat seats in World Business class.
Passengers traveling throughout Europe in Europe Business class enjoy priority baggage handling, priority security screening where available, dedicated check-in lines, lounge access, and complimentary meal service.
Passengers traveling in Economy on international flights enjoy complimentary meal and beverage service and personal entertainment systems. On flights in Europe, Economy passengers enjoy a snack or sandwich depending on the time of day and duration of the flight. Economy Comfort seats, which provide up to 4 inches of extra legroom, are available for an additional fee. Flying Blue Platinum members and passengers flying on a full fare Economy ticket are able to reserve Economy Comfort seats at no charge.
KLM offers complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and either a meal or snack to all passengers, depending on the time of day and the duration of the flight.
Almost all intercontinental flights feature personal seat-back entertainment systems with audio and video on demand for all passengers.
Passengers traveling in World Business class on the Boeing 737-700/800/900 series, B747, B777, MD11 and Airbus A330 aircraft have access to AC power outlets. All passengers on B777 and A330 aircraft may e-mail and text message using the seat-back entertainment system.
