About Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines, which began operations in 1946, flies to more than 60 international and 15 domestic destinations. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Airlines is wholly-owned by the government of Ethiopia. Ethiopian Airlines' major hub is Bole International Airport (ADD) near Addis Ababa.

Class of Service

Ethiopian Airlines provides up to two classes of service on its flights.

Cloud Nine (Business Class)

Passengers traveling in Cloud Nine class enjoy lounge access prior to departure at Addis Ababa airport, an amenity kit, complimentary beverage service and, depending on the time of day and length of the flight, complimentary meal or snack service. Passengers traveling in Cloud Nine class on the Boeing 777 enjoy sleeper seats and entertainment systems with audio and video on demand.

Economy Class

Passengers traveling in Economy Class enjoy complimentary beverage service and, depending on the time of day and length of the flight, complimentary meal or snack service, and on flights to China and the United States, an amenity kit.

Food and Drink

Depending on the time of day and the duration of the flight, passengers will receive complimentary beverages and either a hot meal, a snack or light refreshments. Cloud Nine passengers will have a choice of meals from an à la carte menu.


Ethiopian Airlines' Boeing 777s have audio and video on demand, featuring 15.4-inch video screens and 85 channels in Cloud Nine class and 8.9-inch video screens and 80 channels in economy class. Passengers on all aircraft enjoy 12 channels of audio entertainment.

ShebaMiles is Ethiopian Airlines' frequent flyer loyalty program.

  • You can earn miles by flying Ethiopian Airlines and its airline partners.
  • Miles can also be accrued by purchasing products or services from participating hotel, car and retail partners.
  • Miles can be redeemed for travel awards.
  • Miles are valid for three years from the first year in which the miles accrued. Unused miles will be removed on December 31st of each year if they have expired.
  • Membership levels are Blue, Silver and Gold. These membership levels are attained by accruing 3,000, 25,000 and 50,000 Tier Qualifying Miles or 2, 20 and 40 sectors, respectively, on qualifying flights in one calendar year.
  • Perks for Silver and Gold members include mileage bonuses, lounge access at departure airports and an extra baggage allowance.
