Aer Lingus is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, and flies to nearly 70 destinations in Europe and the United States. It offers onward connections to more than 40 other cities in the United States via partner airlines. The primary hubs and focus cities for Aer Lingus are Dublin, Shannon, London-Gatwick and Cork.
Aer Lingus was founded by the Irish government in 1936. In October 2006, Aer Lingus became a public company when its stock was floated on the Dublin and London stock exchanges. Rather interestingly, over 25% of its stock is owned by its main competitor, Ryanair. While Aer Lingus began as a full service airline, it started migrating toward a low-cost model in 2007 for its short-haul and intra-European routes. Aer Lingus still adheres to more of a full service model on its long-haul routes to the US.
Aer Lingus provides Economy Class service on short-haul flights, and Economy and Business Class service on long-haul flights.
